KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica Defence Force Lieutenant Colonel Jamie O’Gilvie this morning testified before the Tivoli Commission of Enquiry that a number of weapons were found in West Kingston thanks to tips from residents.
“Residents would call and say go to that address,” O’Gilvie said.
He noted that a particular big bust was made on Chestnut Lane due to one of these calls from residents.
At the same time, he testified that an ex-JDF member who served in his battalion was arrested with ammunition during the operation to apprehend Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke in May 2010.
O’Gilvie said he felt a sense of sadness and described the incident as the “ultimate betrayal”, because this man was trained and sworn to protect.
He said, however, it helped to explain the level of coordination and preparedness on the part of the gunmen who were opposing Coke’s arrest.
