With only a few hours to the start of the new school year, there are concerns for the safety of students who attend school in Frankfield, Clarendon, following an upsurge in violence in the area.
About five people have been killed and others injured during ongoing gang disputes in the rural community over the past four weeks.
A parent, living a few miles away in Summerfield in the parish told our news centre that she is afraid to send her daughter back to school in the community under the current conditions. The mother-of-two says the spontaneous incidents are a cause for concern.
Among the recent incidents is the shooting of one of the community’s most wanted men, Demar Lee, otherwise known as Jet Lee. He has since been treated and released from hospital into police custody.
Another gangster, Michael Coore, was killed during a gang attack in the community.
