New Holness Cabinet To Be Officially Appointed, Sworn-In Today

News post March 7, 2016

Jamaica’s new Prime Minister Andrew Holness
Preparations have been finalised for the Cabinet of the new Andrew Holness-led government to be sworn in tomorrow, but there is still no confirmation of who will be included. The ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at King’s House in St Andrew.

Holness was sworn into office last Thursday, one week after he led the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) to a narrow 32-31 seat victory in the February 25 general election. According to JLP General Secretary Dr Horace Chang, in preparation for the appointments, the new prime minister has been having consultations with several government agencies. Chang has also suggested that the JLP administration will be seeking to reduce the number of government ministries and the Cabinet will comprise a mixture of young and experienced Members of Parliament. The Jamaican Constitution requires a minimum of 11 government ministries.
