MOCA arrests one of its own

Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) has arrested one of its own for what it has described as an unprecedented, serious breach of its high professional standards.

It says the officer was arrested yesterday as he attempted to solicit funds from a businessman who was being questioned on a peripheral enquiry related to an ongoing MOCA investigation.

MOCA’s Director-General Colonel Desmond Edwards says the officer’s arrest shows that the agency is committed to its assertion that no one is above the law.

He says MOCA will continue to respond decisively to corruption and corruptive actions, wherever and whenever they are discovered.

MOCA is an elite agency focusing on tackling corruption in the public sector and bringing high-value criminal targets to justice.

It was formed in August 2014 through a merger of the Anti-Corruption Branch and the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Task Force.
