Jamaican gas prices now lower than Trinidad’s
The price for a litre of gas in Jamaica is now not only less than the world average, but is one US cent less than the price of a litre in peroleum-producing Trinidad and Tobago, according to the latest figures from GlobalPetrolPrices.com.
The average price for a litre of gas in Jamaica is now US$0.88 or J$106.04. That compares to the world average price of US$0.97 (J$116.88) and to the price in fellow Caricom country Trinidad of US$0.89 (J$107.24).
But Trinidadian motorists who use diesel still benefit from some of the cheapest diesel in the world.
The average price of diesel across the world yesterday was around US$0.83 per litre, according to GlobalPetrolPrices.com. Jamaica falls just below that rate with a price of US$0.78 or J$93.99 – placing it between Paraguay in Latin America and the mountain kingdom of Bhutan in Asia. That compares to US$0.23 in Trinidad and Tobago, which has the eight lowest price in the world. Meanwhile, Jamaican motorists are reaping benefit from lower oil prices, as oil falls to below US$30 per barrell. Many gas stations aroundJamaica now have prices below $100 per litre as these photos from the corporate area yesterday attest.
