Audley Shaw

ST ANDREW, Jamaica – Opposition Spokesman on Finance Audley Shaw says under the current People’s National Party (PNP) Government, “poverty is upon the land”.

Speaking to Labourites at the Mountain View Primary School in St Andrew a short while ago, Shaw said when the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) governed in 2007 under an economic crisis, the party cushioned the blow for poor people. He said when the PNP came to power in 2011, the economy took a dive. “The dollar slide, then the dollar wine, now 120 is dollar grind,” Shaw said to loud cheers from party faithful.

He argued that Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips and former minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance Horace Dalley have nothing to boast about, except passing International Monetary Fund tests.  “How long shall the wicked reign over us?” Shaw questioned.  He urged Labourites to get ready to vote the PNP out.  He described the current Government as “worthless” and “good for nothing”.

“Tell Sista P man a yard, her boyfriend, seh she seh she was going to reduce poverty, improve standard of living and increase jobs. Well, poverty up…fail, standard of living down…fail,” he shouted to cheers from JLP supporters. “Can you take four more years of Portia, Peter Phillips and the PNP?” he charged.
