Agriculture Minister To Tour Drought-Affected Sections Of St Mary

News post September 23, 2015

Kellier, who is also Labour and Social Security Minister, will end his tour at the Port Maria office of the Rural Agricultural Development Authority.

Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Derrick Kellier is this morning expected to tour sections of St Mary affected by the ongoing drought.

A statement from the ministry said the tour will start at nine o’clock in Agualta Vale.

Kellier, who is also Labour and Social Security Minister, will end his tour at the Port Maria office of the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA).

The RADA board will make a presentation on the state of agriculture in the parish.

Kellier is also expected to meet with banana and plantain farmers.

St Mary has been one of the parishes worst affected by the drought caused mainly by the absence of the usual May to June rains.

Weeks ago farmers and other residents of the parish protested what they called the lack of assistance from the authorities.
